![]() What I see as an outsider is that Reno has lost four large hotel & casinos and nothing has replaced them to lure people back to the downtown area. 2003 which is now becoming condos as well. 2001 (later reopened as the Golden Phoenix and then permanently closed to become condos in Nov. 1998, the Comstock at the end of 2002 (now condos), the Flamingo Hilton Hotel & Casino Oct. The downtown area has been on a downward spiral since Harold’s Club closed in 1995, the Nevada Club on Decem(my favorite), the Riverboat Hotel & Casino on Nov. The only two new hotel & casino developments have been the Silver Legacy, which opened in 1995 and the Siena, which opened in July of 2001. We went to gamble and enjoyed ease of getting from one casino to another. Over the years, my husband and I usually made two to three trips a year to Reno. I agree with you that Reno is not a small town, it has and is changing, and it will never be like Vegas.įor me, Reno has not been changing for the good.
